Situated on the banks of the Wabash River the campus is comprised of nearly 2,500 acres as well as an additional 15,000 acres dedicated to agricultural and industrial research. Russell Street more or less divides the campus in half, with most academic buildings located on the east side and the majority of residence halls and facilities located on the west.

-Nearly 31,000 are undergrads
-Almost 8,000 are postgrads

Student statement about life at Purdue:
"Here's an email I recently wrote to a prospective Purdue student: I could go on for days about life in West Lafayette! We have so much to do here, for the students because it is indeed a "college town." Honestly, coming from Minneapolis, I was apprehensive about moving here but over time I found that I really love the area. There's something for everyone. If you're into the bar scene we have an area next to campus called Chauncey Hill. There, you'll find a handful of bars, hookah bars, burrito places, sub shops, ice cream, coffee shops, etc. Most businesses are suited for student life so our Noodles and Co. for instance is open until 4am on the weekends.
Even though it's rare to find a student who doesn't love the bars, I'm more into finding random free events on the weekends. For example, Purdue offers free movies to students in a "movie theater" setting every couple weeks called Flicks at Fowler which plays movies that haven't yet been released on DVD. I also love to go to the free improv comedy shows that we have around campus. The other things to do around campus are random evens hosted by the Purdue Student Union Board... for instance this weekend I'll be going to a music festival hosted by them called "LollaPURDUEza" and next week we have Holidays at the Union (the main student center on campus). Purdue also hosts a couple huge concerts throughout the year -- for instance I saw the Blue Man group last year. Big artists like coming here to perform... Lady Gaga, Jason Mraz, and Augustana to name a few.
We have a bowling alley and billiard on campus, there's movie theaters, there's hiking trails, there's a nearby mall... you name it. A big piece of advice I'd have for anyone coming to Purdue is to always always read the flyers posted around campus if you're looking for something to do -- that's how I find out about most all activities and events.
As for the people, buildings, bus systems -- I really have enjoyed all of the aspects. Purdue has such a wide variety of students that you're guaranteed to find people with similar interests as you. After all, we are a school of about 39,000 students. The campus, as you probably saw, is absolutely beautiful. We have a tooon of libraries and computer labs scattered all around campus so you'll always have somewhere to go to get your work done. During finals week, they keep the libraries open 24/7 but on a regular week they have one of the main ones open until about 2am. Our computer labs are predominately windows but we also have a Macs to accommodate the mac users too. We have a spot where students can rent cameras and video cameras for free. As for the bus system, it's super convenient. There always seems to be a bus running but you're going to have to get to know the different bus loops because the handful of bus route options can be overwhelming at first." Student Review
Pros and cons of Purdue:
"One great thing about Purdue is that there are so many clubs/organizations, etc for students to get involved in. You can get involved in anything you want, and there are tons of opportunities for leadership. Another great thing is that the town Purdue is in, West Lafayette, IN, is built around the camus. Therefore, there are lots of restaurants and things to do. One other great thing about Purdue is the Greek Life. Being Greek is big at Purdue. A lot of people "rush" sororities and fraternities, and there are coutnless Greek houses on campus. Purdue has the 2nd largest Greek community in the nation. Bad things...Purdue is not very safe. There are always attempted abductions, rapes, assults, robberies, etc in the paper and on the news daily (even stabbings, shootings, etc). The police spend most of their time giving traffic violations, instead of taking care of important things. The facutly at Purdue, at least in my experience, are not very helpful. I am in pharmacy, and the faculty seems more interested in failing students than helping them to pass." U.S. News
Student statement about campus housing:
"Living in the dorms on campus can be a blessing and a pain at times. Purdue is one of the few universities that does not require its students to live on campus for its first year or even at all, but if you do there are a few things you should know. One, the differing amount of dining courts and the quality of food on campus make it possible to fight the "getting old dorm food" urge. Second, where you live matters by your major. Since the residence hall living is spread into two general locations, where students of particular majors live is an observed coincidence. Students studying engineering tend to stay in Tarkington, Wiley, Owen, and Cary halls. Whereas, the other residence halls such as Shreve, Earhart, and Harrison, and others tend to have a more varied assortment of students."College Prowler

Student review of dining at Purdue:
"There are several different dinning halls with a huge variety of food from make your own pizza to stir fry to pasta to sub sandwiches. Whatever your feeling to eat you choose the dining court that fits what you want. Plus they always have dessert and its always good. I always liked Wiley and Ford. I never could go wrong there. Wiley has the make your own pizza, pasta and subs, and you can't go wrong with either of those choices. The flex dollars were always the best for the weekend. I always went to Tarkingtons boiler market in the basement. You have so many through the year that i had to just buy random stuff. I always got an 89 cent fountain drink and snack food for the weekends. For Purdue the 12 meal plan is perfect sometimes you'll have extra swipes but you can use those for on the goes on the weekends since dining courts are closed on sunday nights." College Prowler
