Knock on Every Door

Don’t miss an opportunity simply because you were too busy watching the latest episode of Family Guy to go outside and do something. You’re only going to be an undergraduate student once in your lifetime (hopefully) and you need to make the most of your college experience. You should make an effort to participate in every opportunity that comes your way, no matter how insignificant it may seem, and hunt down different ways to learn and experience the world around you. How else will you figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life?

-Get that Position

Whether it’s an internship that you’ve dreamed of for months or a work study that will help pay the bills you should work your hardest to get the position. Real work experience will teach you what life outside of college will be like, and it will show you whether or not you actually like your field of study. So get out there and find a working opportunity that’s perfect for you.

-Get Involved

Volunteer to help your professor with a research project, start working at the animal shelter down the street, and sign up for a political, environmental or social organization that interests you. Getting involved in your community is the best way to put yourself out there. You’ll meet new people and learn a lot about yourself.

-Get on the Plane

Blowing money on a trip to Africa or Europe might be a difficult decision but it is worth it. If you choose to study abroad you will be able to immerse yourself in another culture, and learn invaluable lessons about life as you do so.

-Meet New People

While it’s easy to stay in contact with all your high school buddies, it’s more fun and a lot more enlightening to put yourself out there and make new friends. New people have a lot of things to teach you; so get out there and say hello.

-Don’t be afraid to move on

Change doesn’t have to be a bad thing. If something isn’t working for you don’t be afraid to step up and try something new, even if it means stepping outside of your comfort zone. You never know what’s waiting for you on the other side of the door; the possibilities are endless.
