The Best Gift Ideas for College Students

Shopping for college students is hard. Either you ask what your student wants for the holidays and forget about surprising them, or you take a guess and risk the chance of buying the wrong gift.

So, here’s my list of gift ideas. Every student is unique, but these gifts will surely be loved, and the money you invest in each will definitely be appreciated.

-1 Single Cup Coffee Brewer

For just five dollars you can get the caffeine-addicted student the perfect solution to his or her coffee cravings. With this filter cone he or she can quickly and easily brew fresh coffee, one cup at a time. It’ll save your student a lot of money in the long run by cutting down trips to Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. Just don’t forget to grab a teapot, some coffee, and a few filters to get him or her started. Find it all here.

-2 Video Membership

Netflix, Hulu and Blockbuster offer some great entertainment for students. Renting movies can be expensive, but these programs make it convenient and simple. Just make sure you get your student a lengthy membership. You may even want to consider making it an annual present. Otherwise your just adding another bill to the ever-growing pile.

-3 Money

Okay, this one is obvious, but every student needs money. Your student will definitely appreciate every penny you give, whether it’s used for textbooks or for entertainment/relaxation purposes. It’s money that for once came without a lot of stress and may lighten the weight on their shoulders for a little while.

-4 Gift Card

If your not comfortable just handing over cash, or you want to make sure the money is used for a specific purpose than a gift card is the way to go. Get your student a gift card for his or her favorite restaurant, clothing store, or dorm supply store. Or if you want to give your student a real treat, give a gift certificate towards his or her spring break trip. That’s a present any student will really be thankful for.

-5 New Dorm Decorations

Sheets, a new comforter, or a dry erase board may not be the present every student dreams about, but that may be just what your student really needs, especially if he or she is strapped for cash. Help your student make their dorm room feel even more like a home after the holidays by giving them new decorations that will really spruce things up.

-6 Kindle/Ipad

These presents may be pricy, but they’ll help your student save money in the long run, and they’ll make studying more convenient. With a Kindle or an Ipad students can save on textbooks, simplify note taking, and study on-the-go. Every student wants one, and your student will definitely appreciate the extra thought.

-7  Online/Magazine subscription

Whatever your student loves to read about there is a magazine for them (online or in print). Chances are there already is a magazine they frequently buy, and a subscription will guarantee that they’ll have access to all of the stories they love.

-8 Cookbook

If your student is a notoriously bad cook, or really hates the kitchen this obviously isn’t the perfect gift, or is it. Cookbooks come in all shapes and sizes, for every purpose, and for every level of ability; there’s even an I Hate to Cook Cookbook. Check it out here. So don’t hesitate to get your student the perfect cookbook for their appetite or lack of cooking abilities.
